Ani Agassi

Armenian artist Ani Agassi is a photographer whose work uses nuances of light and composition in order to capture women in their most natural state of physical and emotional presence. Influenced by childhood memories of her mother being abused by her father and her conservative upbringing, as well as the powerful ways in which women are affected by media and modern day false “standards”; Agassi captures photographs which aim to illustrate that we are all beautiful, unique, and amazing the way that we are and as such should not compare ourselves to others. Through her work she hopes to help women move past the confusion, depression, and self-doubt that is often the product of aiming for the validation of societal standards by instead championing the themes of self-love, confidence, and empowerment.

For Agassi, photography is an incredibly spiritual journey through which she has learned how to listen to, connect to, and relate with the women she photographs. This connection has allowed the subjects of her work to organically leave their personal and emotional stories behind in her photographs and as a result truly be shared with viewers.
