Coming into his fourth exhibition with Agora Gallery, Pakistani-American artist Fahim Somani introduces three-dimensional work in addition to his compelling and highly emotive abstract expressionist paintings. Using a variety of mediums, Somani creates images rich in color, with vivid brushstrokes that add texture and depth, juxtaposed by finer lines and forms that lend a sense of sophistication and grace to the overall effect. His compositions are powerful, suffusing each image with passion and emotion that connect with viewers in potent ways.
Somani’s background and culture have had a major impact on his work, as he uses a wide range of art mediums to reflect the geometrical patterns that are a hallmark of Islamic art. The art of calligraphy is a major influence, adding an entirely new level of form and elegant beauty to each piece. Across his body of work, Somani achieves a fascinating blend of East and West, contemporary and tradition, creating images that “connect people of all walks of life.”
Fahim Somani currently lives and works in Houston, Texas.
