Agora Gallery is pleased to announce Enchanted Earth and Other Worlds, an exhibition of paintings and photographs that dare to travel beyond the confines of reality and human existence. What would happen if man were to disappear off the face of the Earth? How would the forests, oceans, and planets rearrange to find a new equilibrium? The artists featured in this exhibition depict mystical worlds that bypass time and space – expanses largely uninhabited by human life, where nature reclaims its uncontested monopoly. Many of the pieces betray a desire for stillness, for infinity. They offer a private rendez-vous with the elemental forces of the universe, unencumbered by the sensory overstimulation to which we are exposed on a daily basis.
Over a pristinely beautiful mountain range, the sky twinkles with stars or perhaps sprites beckoning to us from another world; a yellow-tinted firmament envelops a lush Jurassic scenery, an enchanting yet ominous vision of a distant fire; pools of primary colors evoke luxuriant tropical habitats. Restored to the throne, the Mother Goddess unleashes her powers of creation and destruction. When humans make an entrance, their presence sticks out like a sore thumb. Faceless bodies, heaped and intertwined, place a spotlight on the iniquities of society, advocating for kindness and solidarity. After witnessing what could be and what is, one cannot but wonder: Wouldn’t nature be better off without us?
