Marliese Scheller creates figurative work that focuses on the human experience. Working in a variety of mediums - such as ink on paper or oil on masonite - she creates compositions that combine traditionalism with realism, drawing influence from Russian Literature and the Middle Ages. Her narrative works often incorporate learned techniques and aesthetic traditions into her oeuvre, inspired by her travels and interactions with different artists. She places a meticulous emphasis on technique, amalgamating disparate creative practices including calligraphy, fresco painting, and tapestry weaving. Scheller is also well-versed in graphic arts and Lebanese artisan craft.

Scheller’s process is primarily intuitive. She believes the creative process to be a critical part of her final compositions. Like nature, her art is affected by the seasons as well as her environment. The subjects featured in her works are often in contemplation, exploring themes of philosophy, psychology, and/or spirituality. Scheller views her work as an unfolding of obtained knowledge and life experiences and believes that inspiration evolves with time, an ever-present theme in her artistic journey.
