REGINA KRUGEL

Kaleidoscope of the Mind
December 29 – January 18, 2017
Reception: Thursday, December 29, 2016 6-8 PM

Born in Hennigsdorf, Germany, a town to the northwest of Berlin, Regina Krugel studied interior architecture, but soon established herself in the world of art and design. Her work is intuitive, guided by her own observations and life experience. Working mainly with acrylic, but also incorporating gouache, wax crayons, and charcoal, Krugel combines disparate styles in her work; her figures span a spectrum between stripped-down line drawings and a fuller rendering. “I prefer painting figures,” Krugel says, “mainly revolving around the everyday activities or behavior of people and their misadventures and wishes.”

Krugel’s work is often inspired by her travels. A recent trip to London inspired depictions of hurried rush hour throngs and the relatively tranquil perspective of the bird’s-eye view. She will often connect the past, present, and future as layers in her work, citing the interdependence of all things in life. However, Krugel’s inspiration goes beyond this grand message. “Since my youth I have painted with pleasure,” she says. “Painting gives me strength, steadiness, and tranquility.”

Regina Krugel lives and works in Frankfurt, Germany.
