GARESE

The French Perspective: Contemporary Art from France
July 8 – July 28, 2016
Reception: Thursday, July 14, 2016 6-8 PM

Garese is a French artist whose vivid oil painting hearkens back to the luscious works of the Old Masters that adorn the walls of countless museums. Working exclusively in oil on linen, Garese creates portraits, landscapes, and still-life work that uniquely juxtaposes the rendering techniques of antiquity with abstract elements. It is the quest for coherence between the worlds of today and yesterday. By doing this, she endeavors to bring new eyes to discover anew aspects of art and the world which we have long forgotten, such as landscapes unmarred by pollution and production that now are so few and far between.

Educated first at Les Beaux-arts de Bordeaux, then at ICART in Paris, Garese received not only a traditional arts education, but also learned the art of interior design from which she gained a deep understanding of decorative painting and tromp l’oeil. The combination of these two different approaches to art can be seen in her elegant handling of light and color to model the subjects of her paintings.
