LAURA SALDARRIAGA

Figuratively Speaking
July 8 – July 28, 2016
Reception: Thursday, July 14, 2016 6-8 PM

The contemporary figurative paintings of Colombian American artist Laura Saldarriaga combine a bright palette with decorative elements to create fascinating expressive works. Inspired by the complexity and beauty of the human experience and a passion for the human figure, Saldarriaga composes lyrical paintings reflecting both the universality and the complexity of human emotion. With a careful attention to detail, the artist reveals much in her rendering of each subject’s face, particularly the eyes: successfully creating characters the viewer can relate to and even establish a dialogue with, leading to a deeper understanding of the human condition.

There is a strong artistic element in Saldarriaga’s work, reflected in her masterful use of media and artist tools. Indeed, she intends for her art to stand as a creative forum, meant to inspire contemplation and offer great beauty and insight to the viewer, from one human to another. As Saldarriaga explains, “For me, art is sublime, and I consider it the last redoubt of human freedom.”

Laura Saldarriaga currently lives and works in the United States.
