In Bimbi Larraburu’s paintings, a world of depth, dimension and complexity emerges from subtle juxtapositions of color, light and texture. “My work starts by choosing the colors I place on the blank canvas,” she says, “randomly, without any previous plan.” But the artist then puts her sharp eye for line and composition to work, harnessing the energy that her color combinations set off in works that, while basically abstract, have a sense of detail and motion that gives them a powerful physical presence. The artist says her work is based on the concept of Essentialism, and in her paintings she brings the vital essence of the world to life.
Working in oils on canvas, Larraburu uses the rich colors that oil paints provide to maximum effect in her images. She also balances area of cloudlike softness with sharply articulated patterns, creating varied rhythms that keep the eye in constant motion while also generating an aura of contemplation, focusing the viewer’s attention on the world lying below the surface of each image. The artist lives and works in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
