ELISA GRION

Red Dot Miami 2019
December 4 – December 8, 2019
Reception: Wednesday, December 4, 2019 6-8 PM

Elisa Grion’s oil paintings are observations and interpretations of human figures in their daily life. Heavily inspired by impressionism, Grion works simultaneously with brushes and palette knives to create a scene formed by heavily applied, textured brushstrokes. She also experiments with aqueous acrylic to integrate a watercolor effect. Grion enjoys the spiritual experience painting gives her: the malleability of blending hues, producing forms through planes of color on fabric, and seeing images slowly emerge onto the canvas.

For Grion, art is a combination of beauty, harmony, and passion. Her style is figurative, and while she bases her compositions from photographs, she does not faithfully reproduce an image—in fact, she intentionally emits certain details to create a dream-like atmosphere. Her frequent source of inspiration is people. Those depicted in her work reflect the various states of human existence, from isolation to companionship. Grion takes everyday situations and daily routines and turns them into studies of body language, emotion, and behavior. She believes that “in each one of us there is a secret world and artists, through their works, inevitably show a small part of it.”
