A self-taught portrait artist, Takumi Kata (TAKU) currently focuses on expressive oil paintings, creating his portraits using photos of people he takes on his travels around the world. His goal is to create works that leave a lasting impression on viewers. In a world dominated by “selfie” culture, TAKU wants to make contemporary painted portraits more accessible to modern people as a way to rediscover their own charm outside of the digit lens.
TAKU is from Japan, and while he does not identify purely as “Japanese,” rather a citizen of the world, he appreciates that people are integral parts of their culture and heritage. TAKU has been exhibiting for over ten years in Tokyo and Paris, shows his work annually in group exhibitions in Osaka.
