SALVATORE PETRUCINO (TOTÓ)

Digitally Represented Artist

Salvatore Petrucino, also known as Totò, is a self-taught acrylic painter based near Rome, Italy. His artistic practice began with landscapes but quickly transitioned to surreal and metaphysical subjects. He creates fantastical dream-like settings portrayed in vibrant, exuberant tones; each painting populated by cartoon-like characters and chess-inspired imagery for added drama. Shadow games play across the canvases, reflecting the subjects’ most intimate fears and emotions. The artist also seeks to cast a spotlight on the dangers of pollution and the threat it poses to the world’s ecosystem. Each of his paintings communicates an important message, inviting the viewer to an exercise of introspection and reflection on the self as well as pressing social and environmental issues.

Petrucino has shown his work extensively in Latina, his hometown, and Rome. Most notably, in 2014 he was selected as Italy’s official representative for the Principality of Monaco, at Galà de l'art, in Montecarlo, and exhibited at the Rome Biennial and ROMART.
