Growing up on a farm in Ireland instilled in artist, Rine Philbin, a love for nature, as is evident through her watercolors that express the ebb and flow of life. To Philbin, the glass is forever half full and her color palette accompanied by soft yet vibrant strokes reflects her positive outlook. “Happiness is a well sought after ideal and if my art brings people to a moment of joy within themselves, then I’ve truly lived,” says Philbin of her work. Often combining watercolor with acrylics, which provides for larger, stronger and more daring pieces, allows Philbin to portray the strong and the gentle balanced in perfect harmony in her images such as insects, animals, and landscapes.
Philbin views the strong history of poetry, literature, and music where she grew up as having “gotten into my bones” and escapes in a happy artistic way. Currently residing in the west of Ireland, Philbin creates in her studio surrounded by her garden and countryside; stating, “I feel I need to paint it to continue breathing myself. Flowers, countryside, birds, and butterflies figure strongly in what I do.”
