NORIYOSHI MORIMOTO

Digitally Represented Artist

Inspired by the natural world, the paintings of Noriyoshi Morimoto revel in repetition. Rendering a graduated contrast from black into white, Morimoto’s artistry lies in finding multitudinous variety in the most restricted palettes. Working mainly with acrylic paints, Morimoto’s works tend towards a monochromatic appearance. In his own own words, “I always try to feel nature work around us. I find it both inspiring and relaxing to feel the confident repetition at work there, that functions without thought of us.”

The purposefulness that underlies nature is expressed in Morimoto’s work by way of the line. For him, drawing is an action by which one line leads into the next. Out of this repeated process, development occurs, and a painting comes to take shape. In this manner, the emotions viewers intuitively perceive in Morimoto’s works could be interpreted as part of some cosmic process. Similar to how the cell constitutes the building block for life, the simplicity Morimoto uses to render images onto canvas builds into more complex integrations. His paintings keep growing until they take root in the viewer's mind.
