Mario España

Prior to his artistic career, Mario España practiced architecture for several years in El Salvador, his home country. When a civil war broke out, he relocated to Los Angeles, California, where he continued with his architecture career, and attended art classes at Los Angeles City College and Los Angeles Valley College. Mario currently lives in Boston, Massachusetts, where he works as a full time artist, continuing to develop his style and techniques. He is an active member of the Arts and Business Council of Greater Boston and the Fort Point Artist Community.

Equipped with the compulsion and need to create something visually appealing to his own eye, España experiments with vivid colors and geometric shapes to produce his works of art. His expressionist-inspired body of work includes abstract painting, colorfield studies, minimalist pieces, figure studies and cityscapes. He creates his pieces stroke by stroke, allowing the final piece to develop organically and reveal itself upon completion.

Some of Mario’s works currently hang in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Lola Travel, Lando and Anastasi law firm, Project Hope, several local businesses in the Boston area, the National Security Agency in Columbia, MD, Espaço Integral in Amparo, Brazil, and private residences in Europe, the US, and South America.
