José Talamás Abularach is a Bolivian artist who works in digital media and photography. Combining photographic images found online, on the street, or in magazines with his own drawings,Talamás scans them into the computer and modifies them using illustration and digital edition programs. The vast majority of the images he chooses belong to the world of pop and media culture. Frequently, they are of women: actresses, models, or his own friends. In works like the “Sentimiento” series, concern is to transform them from a cliché into a meaningful, at times disconcerting work of art that mines his psyche. It is only appropriate that Psyche—the Soul in Greek mythology—was a woman. The artist’s unique inner world emerges in female form as an act of recapturing individuality.
