CHRISTOPHER CRENSHAW

Digitally Represented Artist

New York-based artist Christopher Crenshaw paints the opulence and glamor of fashion, showbusiness, and pop culture, with flashy strokes of vibrant energy. Crenshaw’s flamboyant characters–be they celebrities, historical figures, or animals–are shown at their best; confident and radiant, they pose like divas for the pleasure of their adoring fans. Drawing on his extensive background in the beauty and fashion industries, Crenshaw follows the daring aesthetic of iconic legends like Bob Mackie and Gianni Versace. He uses crystals, rhinestones, synthetic hair, repurposed jewelry, fabric, feathers, appliqués, hair dye, and semi precious stones, which he meticulously applies on the canvas, either in their original form or stiffened with acrylic medium or polyurethanes. To add further three dimensionality, his characters’ faces are partially molded with sculpting clay and collaged on top of the canvas. Each piece is a lavish performance sharing Crenshaw’s passionate zest for life.

Crenshaw is originally from Pensacola, Florida. He studied Illustration and Fashion Design at Pratt University and took classes at the Parsons School of Design. To this day, he maintains a strong presence in beauty and fashion and sees his art as intimately connected with these industries.
