Antonella Sissa believes that art should be reactionary, both while creating and while observing; that art should provide a stimulus and propose an alternative, evoking an active response. Sissa hopes that, as her audience gazes upon her compositions, they are disarmed of any qualms in their lives and rather become engulfed in positivity. Free to decipher her work, she invites everyone to begin their forward-looking journey and acknowledge that there is always a way out from the labyrinths of pain.
Previously working in a variety of media, including handmade paper and stretched canvases, she has now escaped the rigid boundaries of a frame. Painting on loose fabric allows her creativity to flow without any restrictions, conveying a sense of liberation and evolution. Although each medium carries within itself a set of impositions and constraints, she wishes to move away from passively accepting such limitations and introduce the idea of individual liberty.
Each of her pieces is an aesthetic manifestation of her inner journey; a journey of reflection on human existence in a world that is often unjust. It is on this journey that Antonella Sissa searches for the paths where in the end, there is light.
