MARK SALEVITZ

Contemporary Perspectives
January 19 – February 9, 2016
Reception: Thursday, January 21, 2016 6-8 PM

Mark Salevitz aims to capture the uniqueness of cultural experiences by bringing a variety of subjects and landscapes to life, channeling his experiences and memories into vibrant, colorful scenes. Salevitz has always held a deep appreciation for Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art, while the unique interplay between movement, color, and perspective in his works often veers into delightful abstraction and painterly realism. To capture the spirits of his subjects, Salevitz employs bright, vivid hues that curve into familiar patterns or take shape as dreamy, loosely defined banks of color. His brushstrokes are soft and lush, creating a soulful meditation for viewers. Whether he’s depicting landscapes and cityscapes, or still lifes of spring blooms, Salevitz’s compositions juxtapose thick textures against finely crafted strokes. Each piece presents an inventive sense of perspective or scale. Subjects are rendered in highly personal spaces, or approached from a distance with awe reserved for the exotic.

Widely appealing in their exuberance, Salevitz’s paintings have been exhibited in galleries, offices, and hospitals. The artist was raised in the Hudson Valley, and has since settled in Arizona.
