Rebeca Segura Rahme is an artist born and currently residing in Mexico. At the beginning of her artistic career, she painted what her eyes saw and now, attune to her inner emotions, she paints what her soul feels. Layering a range of color, texture, and medium she creates a unique collage-like process through painterly abstraction. The landscape of her color palette and its combination on canvas is largely influenced by the colors of the city she has been residing in for over thirteen years, Chiapas, Mexico.
Intertwining ancestral wisdom which permeates Latin phrases, she harnesses the power and poetry of indigenous languages through expressive gestures upon the canvas. The artist uses a vast array of materiality in her process as one can find, mirrors, woven wool, and natural resins throughout various pieces, which serve to enrich the texture and vibratory quality of the work. The paintings are thickly sensuous bodies that stand on their own, exuding a spiritual omnipresence between the ephemeral and earthly, grounded material. Seeking to pay tribute to a seemingly invisible history, she focuses on what sustains the soul and how the past remains present, yet invariably intangible.
