Yu He

Yu He is a Chinese-born painter currently residing in Florida. Mostly self-taught, having taken some art courses as a child, He usually works in acrylic, although she sometimes dabbles in watercolor and tempera. Using canvas, paper, and cardboard for her work, He draws her influence from both American and Chinese cultures, as well as the sights she encounters in her daily life. Therefore, her paintings generally focus on recognizable scenes: aerial, seascape, landscape, and streetscape views, in addition to still life and other depictions of nature.

Through her work, He strives to find the beauty in the usual, in the natural, in the seemingly ordinary. She is intrigued and impressed by the world happening around her, finding ultimate happiness in it, no matter how mundane it may seem to others. By using loose brushstrokes in order to eliminate detail and blur the images in her paintings, He brings a fantastical abstract element to pieces otherwise grounded in reality, putting a unique twist on objects, items, and natural views that are ordinarily well defined in artistic representations.
