Spanish Artist Pako Martinez creates finely detailed graphite portraits. Martinez uses a gray color palette to evoke a feeling of emotional distance from his subjects. Martinez states that each tiny portrait he draws represents a small universe in and of itself. In Martinez's drawings, minor and hyper-detailed characters appear with large swaths of blank space around them, accentuating their separateness from the viewer. With their scale and placement, Martinez' characters seem as though they are occupying their separate reality. His drawings demand that the viewer take time to move closer and consider each portrait carefully.
