With her intriguing oil paintings, Nora Nourmohammadi aims to make her viewers “find the meaning of all relationships in the work.” Nourmohammadi creates images so full of symbols and significance that her paintings resemble modern-day hieroglyphics, as each object and figure contains its own message. The viewers can enjoy deciphering her works, as the artist provides so many different fields of knowledge to choose from, including history, science, art allusions, and contemporary life.

Nourmohammadi’s subjects are wide-ranging. Some pieces show planets rocketing among tree roots, or a simple spray of roses intertwined with birds. Others show people, clothed and unclothed, locked in dramatic moments. These are not necessarily realistic scenes; sometimes two figures float above a murky background or are poised in a perfectly symmetrical, fraught embrace of high tension. Nourmohammadi’s aesthetic is stylized to have clean lines, saturated colors, and subjects that seem to defy the laws of physics.

Nourmohammadi was born in Sari, Iran and has been exhibiting in Iran for over ten years. She has also taken part in several cultural festivals.
