The delightful paintings of Cher Bettencourt reflect the joy and pleasure that the artist finds in everyday life. Bettencourt admits that she paints what makes her happy, her subjects including animals, scenic vistas, and children. This considered, it is no surprise that she’s an inveterate traveler and animal lover. Her paintings are guaranteed to bring a smile to her viewer's face, and when that inevitably happens, Bettencourt knows she has captured something special with her work. In this way, she discovers a connection between the viewer and the subject. With a masterful application of bright colors and expressive brushstrokes, her paintings succeed at being both naturalistic and emotive. Bettencourt favors the alla prima, or wet-on-wet, technique to give her work this uniquely soft, expressive effect. Her subjects may at times seem light, and it is through Bettencourt's technical mastery that her paintings come across as so effortless.

Bettencourt is a native of Southern California and, with her husband, runs a successful insurance company in addition to her work as an artist. She says her art is all about following her passion and uplifting the hearts of her viewers.
