Born in China, Xi Zhang pursued a higher arts education in Colorado, earning both a BFA and an MFA. Inspired by Buddhism, Taoism, and Existentialist philosophy, his paintings focus on intersectionality as a means of creating a universal outlook on life. “The foundation of my art practice is defined by the topic of individuality versus unity,” Xi says. “Specifically I choose to remix culture as a way to connect in a communal way.”
Xi Zhang is an Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
