Susana Enríquez’s acrylic on canvas paintings offer qualitative, abstract musings on the universal powers of music and poetry. Rhythmic juxtapositions of hard-edged canvas and fluid abstraction abound, with hints of latent human figuration half buried in rich pools of texturized hue. Space, time, color and temporality saturate the works, and Enríquez’s strong education and extensive knowledge of classical painting techniques allow her to harness creative energies with skill and ease. Her marriage to much celebrated major Mexican composer Manuel Enríquez has deeply informed her work and magnificent appreciation for music. Says Enríquez of one of the primary forces driving her life and work, “Music exalts the ability of reflection, creativity...to arouse the imagination in order to create a dialogue between the abstract and the concrete." In addition to music and poetry, her works bear clear resonances with the brightly colored social and cultural environments of Mexico, the artist’s homeland.
Susana Enríquez was born in Mexico City and currently splits her time between Australia and Mexico. She has shown her work internationally, including exhibitions in Australia, Mexico, Spain, Japan, England and France.
