Exploring various cosmic themes, Vancouver-based artist Robert R. Moss employs fractals in recurring similarities and diverse scaling to convey mystical journeys. “Visions of the mythic and the sacred appear as frequent leitmotifs in my art,” notes Moss. “I am interested in the Aboriginal conception of maps as representations of a geographical forms but also metaphors for the spiritual journey.” These intricately detailed works portray thought-provoking journeys in time, space and memory. Through a fluid, eclectic style, Moss explores boundary zones, mythical visions and sacred events.
In occupying the boundary zone between abstract and representational art, Moss skillfully transitions between each, distorting scales and distances and playing with the fractal notion of recurring elements in a way that intrigues the eye of the viewer but also encourages reflection and consideration. Through rich colors and a visionary style, Moss explores some of the archetypal motifs of both Eastern and Western art.
