Rachel Misenar is a painter whose work is a dazzling celebration of organic beauty and the natural world. To her, everything is organic, and she finds overwhelming amounts of inspiration in the world around her. Making heavy use of bold colors, her paintings use thick, organic lines, and forms, incessantly yet lovingly layered to create twisting abstractions that meander across the canvas and bring to mind, for instance, the wildflowers of a southern summer glimpsed and then recalled for the viewer on canvas.
From a young age, Misenar was taught a deep respect for art by her father, who brought her to New Orleans and Magazine street in order to expose her to the great modern painters in person. As such, art became an early part of her identity that is very much tied to her soul just like her southern roots. In her career, Misenar has earned numerous awards and honors, including the MS Bi-State Art Exhibit in both 2007 and 2009, Portico Magazine Top 10 Emerging Artists in 2009, Bright Lights Belhaven Nights Mural Designer and Featured Artist in 2013, as well as the Habitat for Humanity Featured Artist in 2018.
