Canadian artist Peter W. Hart uses vivid, primary colors and thick brushstrokes to create textured and energetic paintings that resemble luminous stained glass windows. An abstract and curving latticework accentuates Hart’s palette, with multiple muted layers underneath giving way to a rough, visceral, and stunningly complex surface. Oftentimes, Hart mixes his primary colors on the canvas to resemble the transient qualities of ambient light, resulting in a gorgeous and subtle gradation of tones.

Hart’s subject matter is inspired by the work of 19th century Impressionists, specifically the work of Vincent van Gogh. Indeed, it was a book of Impressionist art that originally inspired Hart to paint thirty years ago. He was captivated by the movement’s supremacy of light and transposed color, which spurred the artist to develop his own signature style. His art has been acquired by private collectors around the world, and his work has appeared in group and solo exhibitions  worldwide, as well as charity drives in Montreal, where he lives and works.
