MrLou constructs compelling surreal worlds in digital art, combining powerful photographic imagery and cutting-edge technology. MrLou’s Florida habitat seems to inform the vibrant greens, purples, pinks and oranges that are injected via dye sublimation onto substrates such as glossy papers, canvases, silks, ceramic tiles, slate and glass. Expertly crafting the serenity of earthly nature and the strength of cosmic-like architecture, crafts and geometric shapes, MrLou’s work is at once familiar and futuristic.
With an imagination that crosses artistic disciplines, MrLou often starts with personal poetry. Shaped by the Gay Rights Movement beginning with the 1969 Stonewall Riots and years of law studies, MrLou examines concepts of freedom in his art process and practice. Liberty drives creativity, a philosophy of personal unity that the artist describes as “cognitive humanity.” With abandon, he pushes the imagination from the depths of visceral experiences and emotions outward to the plane of reason and material. Thorough his artwork, MrLou embraces autonomous harmony and invites viewers to discover meaning on their own terms.
