Russian American artist Mila Gerasimova combines photographic images to create surrealistic digital collages that are highly emotive and poignant with meanings. Her use of double exposure in her photographs yields artworks that are haunting and otherworldly. Natural subjects and landscapes are juxtaposed against human faces, demonstrating a human consciousness that is ancient, deep, and far beyond the superficial trappings of our modern culture.
Inspired in particular by the Renaissance masters (including Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael), Gerasimova takes the rich legacy of this painting period and translates it to a world of fantasy and imagination that peers closely at the depths of the human psyche. Gerasimova shows us that the unexplored terrain within the human mind is vast and that there is so much yet to be uncovered and understood.
Mila Gerasimova currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
