El Salvadoran artist Maria Antonia Mena Lagos is inspired by the Mayan and indiginous culture, and all her work aims to promote a love and care of indiginous societies. Her use of oil, acrylic, watercolor, and engraving bring to life the flora and fauna her paintings depict. Inspired by her childhood in the countryside of El Salvador and her world travels since then, Lagos’ vibrant colors and bold designs seem to breathe on the page.

In addition to being a painter, Lagos is a coffee producer, and she strives to shine a light on coffee plantations’ importance by highlighting the lives of the workers and the environmental impact they have. Influenced by artists like Paul Gauguin and Frida Kahlo as well as her love of the natural world, Lagos finds inspiration in her daily life, and she hopes to inspire other artists in turn.
