With their bright colors, varied textures and dynamic compositions, Lynn M. Doyal’s paintings are vivid examples of the artist’s energy and positive spirit. “Fun is an essential ingredient in my motivation to create,” she says, and that fun is brought to life through her ability to use different media—hand stitching, beading, oil paints and acrylics—in works that combine intricate details with a spontaneous sense of line and motion. Working on canvas, Doyal creates a blend of the handmade and contemporary abstract design, giving even the most precise, kaleidoscopic pattern a relaxed, open quality that effortlessly welcomes the viewer.
Doyal’s works on canvas, however, are not the end point of her artistic project. She also digitally scans her images and enlarges them to several times their original size. “When my work is presented on a giant scale,” she says, “the viewer experience becomes more abstract and dramatic.” She prints those large images on such materials as canvas, glass, metal, and tile. By magnifying the intricacies of her hand-crafted details, Doyal explores what she calls the “What if?” factor, which heightens the experimental quality of her work.
Doyal lives and works in Boca Raton, Florida.
