LUIS AMADO DE SOUSA VILLA

The Latin American Contemporary Fine Art Competition
December 5 – December 15, 2018
Reception: Thursday, December 6, 2018 6-8 PM

Luis Amado De Sousa sculptures everywhere verge on the logic of design. Often diminutive enough to be grasped by hand, the scale of De Sousa works also speak to their themes. A work like Autana, for example, prominently features a small bicycle—too small to be functional, yet unmistakable in its various aspects. The bike’s coloration lends the work a dream-like significance, as though the bike were a symbol for something that cannot be otherwise expressed. The whole sculpture seems to communicate a narrative which can fit in the palm of the viewer’s hand.
