With a natural eye for the moment, Louis Cotto captures the heart of place and time with a striking clarity, bringing to light excerpts of life. Unburdened by the dogma and structure of traditional fine art, Cotto dives into photography with a pure freedom and love for his medium, creating, in tribute to his grandchildren, a legacy representing the satisfaction and joy he has experienced through his friends and family. Cotto develops his photographs on metallic or glossy paper, giving each image an incredible richness of texture and visual depth. Occasionally, he prints his images as a limited edition.
Born in New York to a family of Puerto Rican descent, Cotto found his experience and understanding of the world greatly broadened through travel to over twenty countries and his work with the U.S. Diplomatic Corps in Havana, Cuba. An accomplished writer as well as a self-taught artist, Cotto has produced six books of love poems in both Spanish and English, two musical plays, and a song that was played on New York radio.
