The abstract mixed media work of American artist Loren Howard is quite powerful, inviting the viewer into a realm of energetic color and design that speaks to our most primal visual understanding of our human experience. Referred to as wall hangings rather than paintings, each image is characterized by a primary color scheme of solid colors that minimizes any blending in order to better emphasize the shapes, patterns, and textures contained within.
Howard considers his most current work nonobjective and gets his inspiration from both nature and his imagination, as well as the jazz music he often works to. There is a visual depth to each hanging that infuses the work with a certain vitality, an insight into the energetic patterns and inherent flow that compose our visual world. As Howard explains, “My wall hangings have a presence. Their variety of colors and depth create a rhythm that is both seen and felt.”
A retired art teacher, Loren Howard currently lives and works in North Sutton, New Hampshire.
