Artist Josefina F. Moran is known for her stark, unvarnished photographs of women. In the series about her mother, Tatiana, entitled Tati, Moran takes an intimate look at her aging mother as she putters around a narrow urban interior. Instead of traditional portraits, Moran focuses on the details of Tati’s existence: a purple comforter, a pearl necklace, the shades on the window.
In My Mother with Light, Moran invites the viewer to partake in a still moment that is at once quietly pensive and poignantly haunting. Moran carefully captures the light which streams in through the window and embraces the figure, blending warmth into an otherwise raw, yet telling, photograph.
