The assemblages of Jorge Doldan Berlan have an architectural quality about them. Indeed, being composed exclusively out of colored wood blocks, the suggestion of an artist’s hand, as he works to assemble a piece, is everywhere present. What distinguishes Berlan’s works is not so much how he constructs them, but the compositions he realizes through his chosen material. Aluvión IV, for example, poetically recreates the fluxional wash of the sea against the shore. As a static object, the work speaks to its theme almost holographically, each detail being a microcosmic expression of a pictorial whole.
