Contemporary artist Jennifer Morris is an abstract painter living and working in Maine. She studied studio art and photography from childhood through college, but took a break from her Collegiate studies to serve in the US Army. Upon completing her active duty, Morris returned to Maine and obtained her bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design. In 2018, she began to concentrate exclusively on painting. Her passion for color and joy in creating is seen in her abstract expressionist pieces, created with acrylic paints, inks, and mixed media materials. Encouraged by a friend, the multi-talented artist began focusing entirely on painting in 2017.
For Morris, painting is a means to organize the omnipresent chaos in the world and in her head. As she adds layers of color onto canvas, that chaos becomes structured, orderly, and beautiful. Her work is raw and vibrant, displaying authentic expression in each creation. When she returned from her deployment, Morris experienced feelings of isolation, exacerbated by her already introverted personality. She realized the power of painting as a means of expression when spoken word proves difficult.
