A passionately versatile artist in many media, J.M. Baker expresses his inspirations with dexterity and delight. As he allows his creativity to carry him in new and exciting directions, Baker immerses himself within his artistic visions, experimenting with style and form with a smooth and limitless mastery. From his skillful hand emerge bold, politically charged images of war and peace, playfully fiery explosions of mark and color, and a luscious fluidity in his exquisite botanical studies. Baker moves between mediums and methods with an enthusiastic freedom, creating works in watercolors, color block prints, and pencil as he follows his inspiration wherever it takes him.
Despite early artistic achievements, as the youngest of eight living in challenging circumstances in London Baker had to start working from an early age and was unable to further his artistic education. Self-taught as an artist, he has lived in Scotland for the last thirty-six years and spends his retirement working professionally on a variety of commissions from his cottage and studio, Artick Design, and as an exhibiting member of the Largo Bay Art Club.
