HILDA KLEYN

Idiosyncratic Expressions
July 31 – August 20, 2015
Reception: Thursday, August 6, 2015 6-8 PM

Equally at ease working in small scale or large, artist Hilda Kleyn paints with oil on canvas, utilizing both brush and palette knife for added textural dimension. Dramatic, expressive, and bold, her compositions comprise many thin and delicate layers juxtaposed with strong lines of abstraction crisscrossing through the foreground. Despite having been formally trained early on in classical painting, her current works lean toward something like Abstract Expressionism, their rich, warm hues alluding to organic matter and the elements. Many paintings feature the use of reds, accented with brown, black and grey, though the artist also sometimes features ultramarine and cobalt blue. Kleyn’s highly texturized and yet delicate layers ultimately resemble the free-flowing and wondrously fluid motion of chaos evident in nature.

Of Dutch nationality, international artist Hilda Kleyn was born in Ghana, Africa before moving to Holland with her family at the age of five. Currently working in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Kleyn received the “International Award Lorenzo il Magnifico“ for painting at the Florence Biennale and has upcoming exhibitions planned in Frankfurt, Italy and New York.
