Greenberg

Larry Greenberg is a figurative, expressionist painter working exclusively in oil. Greenberg is known for creating semi-abstract compositions that depict expressionless, ghost-like figures. In his previous bodies of work, Greenberg composed his paintings dependent on using a limited color palette, that consisted primarily of earth tones; his most recent body of work, however, incorporates a color range that is vivid and dramatic, creating a sense of tension, apathy, and foreboding, leaving an emotional impact on the viewer.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Greenberg became intrigued by art as a student while attending City College, where he was studying mathematics and science. He had previously seen a picture of Picasso’s, Guernica, in a school textbook; it was when he was wandering the rooms of the Museum of Modern Art and viewed Picasso's masterpiece in person that he decided to fully immerse himself in studying art and creating work. He enrolled in Brooklyn College and was mentored by Harry Holtzman, who Greenberg credits for teaching him to see, to learn, and to grow as an artist.

The Anatomy of Expression

Greenberg's collection presents an emotional look into humanity.
