The young Ecuadorian artist GOTASI describes his work as contradictory, but it is exactly that sense of contrast that provides his work with its energy and power. Working in oils on canvas, the artist creates images that range from sharply rendered portraits to abstract compositions in which both the human figure and scenes from nature are incorporated into dynamic yet precise patterns. With a collaboration between brushes and his fingers, he produces a wide range of textures, depicting a physically compelling world. GOTASI is as adept at capturing the delicacy of a flower’s petals as he is at making bold geometric shapes, and he excels at putting those elements together in intriguing ways.
The artist has a strong sense of scale, proportion, and perspective, and he uses those skills to subtly focus the viewer’s attention. In addition, he makes effective use of a varied color palette, creating what he refers to as “an endless dance between warm and cool colors.” That feeling of rhythm and movement gives his paintings a freshness and spontaneity that immediately pulls the viewer in, making each scene come alive.
GOTASI lives and works in Ambato, Ecuador.
