French artist Flores Thierry gestures at the canvas, layering a treated surface with a vast array of colors which dazzle the eye. The movement of paint on the surface of the canvas resembles the work of the Action Painters of the 1960s, who focused on gestural abstraction. As an artist, Thierry is beyond talented, especially without any formal art education. With intuition and an eye for design, he advanced from working on interior painting and renovation to painting figure based works and then abstraction.
His works are primarily done using an acrylic medium which reveals the fluid nature of the water-based paint. Thierry's thickly layered paintings include some stenciled images and drawings as an underpainting and energetic drips of acrylic medium as the overpainting. His works reveal to the viewer an inner child-like spirit which comes forth onto the canvas with striking dimension and depth. The colorful textures mark a spontaneity and rhythm which mirror an artist free from the rigidity of artist technical training.
