ELI CANTINI

Emerging Visions
December 29 - January 14, 2016
Reception: Thursday January 7, 2016 6-8 PM

Eli Cantini's paintings in acrylic capture in detail scenes of peculiarity and significance without losing their internal sense of intimacy. Cantini doesn't shy away from intricacy, but rather embraces the untamed aspects of her work. This is most apparent in her skill at framing her particular subjects: whether using color, light, or space to denote her focus, she is able to retain these elements' places in the chaotic landscape around them. In terms of color, Cantini tends towards a neutral palette, with the noteworthy exceptions of deep crimsons, bright golds, and intense shades of black.

While tackling a variety of subjects, Cantini focuses on the border between everyday life and everyday magic. Common themes include light, like a midnight sun or a full moon, and the importance of connection and growth. Cantini achieves a strong sense of wonder through the chaotic interweaving of intersecting lines and her cloudy and painterly brushstrokes. These stylistic motifs appear both individually and together, producing a sense of overlapping worlds, including freeform drawing and geometry, and myth and reality.
