EDUARDO RODRIGUEZ

March 28 - April 17, 2014
Reception: Thursday April 3, 2014 6-8 PM

The surrealistic paintings of Spanish artist Eduardo Rodriguez are meant to be a direct reflection of his life experiences, both symbolically and in terms of expressionistic rendering. Both colorful and replete with meaning, each painting depicts the ever-present internal struggle for balance and happiness. A major theme threaded through his works is the presence of an omniscient eye, meant to be a humanizing element in the cold worlds he often creates. The eye is also an observer of the spectator himself or herself, a mirror of sorts, “returning the favor of the glance.” Beginning with a blank canvas or paper, Rodriguez’s artistic process is completely intuitive, moving his hand to an idea that is at once vague and emotionally strong. What results are images profoundly influenced by an intersection of memory, mood, and experience. In the end, Rodriguez’s only aspiration is to “tell the world what I feel… and communicate all the passion, pain, and love I have inside.”

Born in a tiny town in La Mancha, the land of Don Quixote, Eduardo Rodriguez currently lives and works in Madrid, Spain.
