Dongze Huo's mixed-media works are restless, graceful, and consummate examples of the ways contemporary painting continues to innovate. Huo paints roiling shapes that push and pull at each other, building up a composition as they go. He plays with flatness and how it can create energy when manipulated correctly. At the right moment, he adds a thin line of ballpoint ink or an unexpected scratch to the surface in order to puncture the expected narrative and change its direction.
Huo was born in Xi'an, China and today lives in New York City.
