DANIELA FRIEDERIKE LÜERS

Forms and Formalities
April 1 – April 21, 2016
Reception: Thursday, April 7, 2016 6-8 PM

European artist Daniela Friederike Lüers creates paintings that are a bold, colorful combination of expressionism, monochromatic photorealism, and pop art. Influenced by Gothic architecture and her love of nature, Lüers says her goal is to wake up her audience from their accustomed patterns of visual perception so that they can actively see what's around them with new eyes. To do this, she quotes traditional themes, such as deer or angels, in bright, surprising ways. She infuses her work with a sense of inner peace, lightness, and freedom, and favors acrylic pigments applied with broad, sure brushstrokes.

Lüers began her artistic career painting en plein air, with a very impressionistic style. While her style has changed and she now paints in a studio, Lüers still seeks to create work with the same sense of light, simplicity, and clarity that she loves about painting outdoors. She describes her purpose as both an artist and a human being as "healing by beautifying the world," and she considers her paintings a gift from herself to her viewers.
