CLARE PAGE

Landscapes of the Mind
December 3 – December 23, 2016
Reception: Thursday, December 8, 2016 6-8 PM

When Clare Page received a camera as a gift several years ago, it opened up a new way of looking at the world for her, allowing her to capture the textures and colors of the landscapes of Australia and New Zealand. Shooting with a 50-megapixel camera and printing her images on Plexiglass, Page shows a strong ability to capture and expand upon the effects of natural light, manipulating shutter speed and applying filters to give that light a life of its own while also using it to bring the details of the natural world alive.

Working outdoors, she must often respond to unique light conditions, whether they result from brightly lit skies dotted by clouds or from the opaque nature of fog. The photographer particularly enjoys fog’s inconsistency and mysteriousness, and gives it a powerful presence in her pictures. That responsiveness and openness to the environment lets her find the messages that underlie nature’s beauty. “Life is an inspirational teacher,” she says. “When I experience seasons of opposition, I thrive.”

Clare lives and works in South Island, New Zealand.
