CHANTAL LE BRUN

The French Perspective: Contemporary Art from France
July 8 – July 28, 2016
Reception: Thursday, July 14, 2016 6-8 PM

With an eye for pattern in the everyday, Chantal Le Brun photographs scenes that span continents and subjects.  In some of her work, Le Brun explores geometric architectural compositions, looking at the cities she visits with an eye towards design and composition. Uniquely, she applies this same eye to natural landscapes, coaxing out the pattern in organic scenes. Using a deep depth of field, Le Brun flattens mountains and buildings into planes of color and texture. In other instances, she captures small moments in the lives of people around the world. She focuses on tailoring each image to the setting, exploring how light forms the scene. Whether figurative or a landscape, Le Brun's work deftly captures small instances in everyday life. She balances time and space in these crisp, crystallized moments from a life spent traveling.

Chantal Le Brun lives in Paris but her work spans the globe. Each image shows another facet of humanity and our environments in saturated detail. The people she meets and the variety of experiences she witnesses shine through in each photograph.
