Artist Ashley Morgan is an expressionist figure painter and sculptor. Morgan’s artwork tells the story of the human figure. Going against the grain of a tradition that preferences the female nude, Morgan focuses on the male body. She favors painting from a model and is especially interested in the torso with its complex muscle structure. In works like Torso on Deep Purple the artist’s experimental use of color, line and form pushes the image beyond realistic representations of the figure, evoking associations with landscapes or expressive abstractions.
Morgan was raised in Atlanta, Georgia where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Art. She put her artistic talent to use in her professional career as a video game designer. Following computer gaming, she studied color formulation, founded her own nail polish company and brought a niche product and software application to market. Her discoveries in color are translated throughout her artwork. Currently, Morgan lives in Montreal and is a full-time professional artist. Her work is exhibited widely and held in numerous private collections. Morgan was a finalist in the prestigious Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series.
